Khadur, which the Lok Sabha seat spells Khadoor, is an old village about 19 km east of Tarn Taran in Punjab. The Encyclopaedia of Sikhism says it is sacred to the first three Gurus. Bhai Lahina, who became Guru Angad, married here in 1519. After Guru Nanak named him his successor in 1539 he came back to Khadur, which became the centre of the Sikh faith until his death in 1552. Amar Das served him here and was in turn anointed Guru.

The Encyclopaedia says Guru Angad taught children Gurmukhi letters here and gave instruction in wrestling at Mall Akhara. The shrines include Tapiana Sahib, Mai Bharai, Mall Akhara and Darbar Sahib Angitha Sahib, where the Guru was cremated; the SGPC manages them through a local committee.

Key moments

What it means today. The seat carries the name of the second Guru’s town. Since 2024 it has also carried the question of a jailed Member of Parliament whose plea to attend the House the High Court rejected in March 2025.
