Former SGPC president; senior Akali leader; leader of the 2024 and 2025 rebel Akali factions

Senior Akali leader, the first woman and first Dalit to head the SGPC (1999); later a rebel against the Badal leadership and a leader of the breakaway Akali faction in 2025.

Bibi Jagir Kaur is a senior Akali leader and former president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). In March 1999, with the backing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, she became the first woman to head the SGPC. A Tribune editorial of 28 March 1999 said she had three firsts to her credit: the first woman to head the body, the first Dalit to reach that position, and the first to dislodge Gurcharan Singh Tohra, who had won the post 25 times. She was 45.
