Terms

How you may use Sikhitihas, and how we keep it right together.

A community project

Sikhitihas is a community project: a shared record of Punjab and the Sikh Panth, built together with the Sangat. Reading it is free and never needs an account.

Using what you find here

You may quote, share and present what you read here, in a talk, an article, a video, a class or your own research, and you may cite Sikhitihas as your source. Please name Sikhitihas and link to the page you used, so others can check it.

Every fact on the site comes with a published outside source. Cite that source too where you can. Those books, papers, reports and pictures belong to their authors and publishers, and their rights stay with them.

A † marks our own analysis, by Panthic View. If you use it, present it as ours, not as a fact from the source.

We can make mistakes

We try to be as factual as we can. But this is a community project and nobody is perfect, so we will sometimes get something wrong. We correct mistakes as we find them, in English and in Punjabi, and the site keeps changing as we go. It is offered as it is, without a promise that every line is free of error.

If you think we got something wrong

Press Suggest a correction on that page. Tell us what should change and point us in the right direction: a link, or a book with its page number. Reasonable, sourced corrections are welcome from anyone. The owner reads every one before anything on the site changes.

Your name

When you send a correction or a connection, please give your name, so we can thank you. Your name is published only if you ask for credit on the form. If you do not want it published, say so when you send it, or leave the credit part of the form empty. If you change your mind later, tell us and we will take it off. Your email address is never published.

What you send

By sending a correction or a connection, you let us use it to correct and improve the site: we may shorten it, put it in our own words in both languages, and publish it with the sources you gave. Please send only what you are free to share: short quotes, not whole articles. Nothing abusive, and nothing about private people who are not in public life.

Your data

Your data stays safe with us. What you send, and what you keep in your account, is used only for this site; we never sell it and never show your email address. You can download your data or delete your account at any time. What we keep and why.

Accounts

Signing in is optional. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, one each. We may close an account used to spam or abuse the site or its readers.

Changes and questions

We may update these terms as the project grows; the date below says when they last changed. For questions, write to [email protected], or press Suggest a correction on any page.

Last changed 22 October 2026.
