Manjit Singh GK
Delhi Akali leader and DSGMC president from 2013 to 2018. He later left the Akali Dal, formed JAGO, rejoined in 2023, and in October 2025 lost his DSGMC membership.
Manjit Singh GK is a Delhi Akali leader and a former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). The press prints his name as Manjit Singh GK, Manjit Singh G.K. and Manjit GK, and none of the sources found expands the initials. He is the second eldest of four sons of Jathedar Santokh Singh, the Delhi Akali leader assassinated in 1981, and he led the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
Key moments
- 2013 to 2017: elected DSGMC president in 2013, with Manjinder Singh Sirsa as general secretary, defeating the Sarna brothers' Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi). The two were re-elected on 30 March 2017, for a third consecutive time.
- 9 October 2018: he said he had handed charge to senior vice-president Harmeet Singh Kalka but had not resigned. A DSGMC official linked this to a protest against the Akali Dal's stand on the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. GK did not directly confirm that.
- 6 December 2018: he resigned as president amid corruption allegations, which The Tribune report does not detail. Other executive members, including Sirsa, also resigned, sending their resignations to Sukhbir Singh Badal.
- 14 February 2020: the DSGMC general house, then led by Sirsa, ended his membership, alleging financial irregularities, and gave him a month to deposit Rs 55 crore. GK denied the allegations, said he would pay double any rupee of irregularity that was proved, and called the decision illegal. By then he had left the Akali Dal and formed his own party, Jag Aasra Guru Ott (JAGO).
- 25 December 2023: he rejoined the Akali Dal with his whole JAGO team after Sukhbir Badal visited his home. He said he was impressed by Badal's apology before the Akal Takht, and listed the release of the Bandi Singhs and Chandigarh's status among pending issues.
- 25 June 2025: with Paramjit Singh Sarna he led the opposition that boycotted the re-election of Harmeet Singh Kalka as DSGMC president.
- 25 October 2025: the DSGMC General Assembly cancelled the memberships of Paramjit Singh Sarna, Harvinder Singh Sarna and GK by a three-fourths majority. Kalka said the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections and the Delhi Government had directed the action.
Remembered for: heading the DSGMC from 2013 to 2018 and for the repeated splits in Delhi's Akali politics. The financial allegations against him are the DSGMC's own, and he has denied them.
