Mankirt Aulakh
Punjabi singer booked in 2020 over a song said to promote weapons, the target of an extortion threat in 2025, and a public backer of the Satluj film on Jaswant Singh Khalra in 2026.
Mankirt Aulakh (the Tribune often spells it Mankirat) is a Punjabi singer. His official website says he was born on 2 October at Fatehabad in Haryana into a Sikh family, was a sportsman before he took up music, and lives in Mohali. He debuted in 2013 with the song "Darshan Karke", released on 22 November 2013, and the site names "Kaka Ji" (February 2014) as his claim to fame. The Tribune calls him a "controversial singer".
Key moments
- 1 February 2020: Mansa police registered a case against Aulakh and Sidhu Moose Wala over a song video on social media. It followed a complaint by the Chandigarh lawyer H.C. Arora, who argued that songs of this kind spread hatred, encourage youth to take the law into their own hands and defy Punjab and Haryana High Court orders against songs glorifying liquor, drugs and violence. The sections were 294, 504 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (The Tribune).
- 23 February 2020: DESIblitz reported that the case was withdrawn after both singers obtained anticipatory bail, and that police had issued a Look Out Circular against them. It says Moose Wala told police he had not written or recorded the song and sang it casually at a get-together; Aulakh had not yet recorded a statement.
- 21 August 2025: a case was registered at Mataur police station under sections 318(5) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after threat calls and messages reached his management, in which pictures of his home and vehicles were sent. On 26 August the Tribune reported that Harjinder Singh, also known as Ravinder Singh, of Khudda Jassu had been arrested at Delhi airport while trying to leave the country. Police said more details were likely to emerge. The Tribune adds that Aulakh has received threats from gangsters before.
- July 2026: after the film Satluj on Jaswant Singh Khalra was pulled from the ZEE5 platform within 48 hours of release, Aulakh told reporters, as quoted by ANI in the Tribune, that the film "is in our hearts" and that Diljit Dosanjh had shown the truth of what happened.
Where he appears in this record: he is one of the singers named in the long argument over gun songs in Punjab. In the sources the complainant says such songs glorify violence and defy High Court orders. The 2020 case did not end in a court finding, and Moose Wala's account to police was that the song was sung casually. The articles cited here do not report Aulakh's own account of the case.
