Harmeet Singh Kalka

ਹਰਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਲਕਾ

President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (elected January 2022, re-elected June 2025)

President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, elected in January 2022 and re-elected in June 2025. Sat on the 2023 Akal Takht panel on Balwant Singh Rajoana and the Bandi Singhs.

Harmeet Singh Kalka is president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), the elected body that runs Delhi's historic gurdwaras. He was senior vice-president under Manjit Singh GK from March 2017, and in October 2018 GK handed him charge when GK stepped aside, saying he had not resigned.

Key moments

  • 22 January 2022: elected DSGMC president with 28 votes after a deadlock of more than ten hours. One member's vote was held in a sealed cover because he had not proved Gurmukhi proficiency. Manjit Singh GK and the Sarna brothers objected to the process, and GK alleged that Delhi Police removed 21 members, including him.
  • 31 January 2022: he quit as president of the Akali Dal's Delhi unit, saying the DSGMC and the party unit should have separate heads, while saying he remained an Akali Dal member.
  • 17 March 2022: he announced a new party, Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi State), to work under the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, with himself as chief patron. He said the Akali Dal leadership had lost the Panth's trust and had not answered the sacrilege allegations against it adequately.
  • 6 to 20 December 2023: Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh formed a five-member panel, headed by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, to take Balwant Singh Rajoana's mercy plea and the release of the Bandi Singhs to the Prime Minister's Office. Kalka, Virsa Singh Valtoha, Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana and Barjinder Singh Hamdard were the other members. Kalka wrote to the Jathedar questioning a protest march planned from Gurdwara Rakabganj to Rashtrapati Bhawan, arguing that talks and demonstrations could not go on together. The SGPC put off the march, and the Jathedar told Kalka and Valtoha to set aside their differences.
  • 21 December 2023: after Home Minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha that the mercy petition could not be considered because the SGPC, a third party, had filed it, Kalka said raising the matter in the Lok Sabha was unnecessary while the Akal Takht panel was pursuing it. On 15 January 2024, more than five weeks after the panel was formed, The Tribune reported that the Home Ministry had still not given it an appointment.
  • 25 June 2025: re-elected DSGMC president without a contest after the opposition, led by Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK, boycotted the vote. Kalka and general secretary Jagdip Singh Kahlon said the opposition boycotted because it did not have the members.
  • 25 October 2025: the DSGMC General Assembly cancelled the memberships of Paramjit Singh Sarna, Harvinder Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK by a three-fourths majority. Kalka said the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections and the Delhi Government had directed the action.

Remembered for: heading the Panth's most Delhi-facing elected body through a bitter split between rival Akali groups. The reports found do not say how the Rajoana panel's effort ended.
