Danish Singh
ਦਾਨਿਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ
President of the World Sikh Organization of Canada and the public voice of its April 2026 report on anti-Sikh hate, which the WSO calls the first comprehensive one of its kind in Canada.
Danish Singh is the president of the World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO), the advocacy body founded in 1984 and headquartered in Ottawa, which says it exists to promote and protect the interests of the Sikh diaspora. The WSO's own team page lists him as president, with British Columbia as his province. He is a living person, and what follows is limited to what he has said publicly and what outlets have reported.
Key moments
- April 2026: as president he fronted Understanding and Addressing Anti-Sikh Hate in Canada, a WSO report funded by the Canada Race Relations Foundation (the WSO says its content and conclusions are its own). It draws on a survey of more than 1,600 Sikh Canadians who answered between 1 January and 1 March 2025, plus nationwide town halls. The WSO describes it as the first comprehensive report dedicated to documenting hate and discrimination against Sikhs across Canada.
- What it found, as New Canadian Media reported on 20 April 2026: a majority of respondents said they had been victims of hate, 80 per cent felt anti-Sikh hate had increased over five years, and more than 70 per cent of victims did not report incidents to the authorities.
- April 2026: launch panels were announced for Surrey (24 April), Calgary (25 April) and Winnipeg (26 April) during Sikh Heritage Month, with speakers named as Senator Baltej Singh Dhillon, Jagmeet Singh and Dr Jaspreet Kaur Bal among others.
- He called the low reporting rate a stark finding and said Statistics Canada and other national bodies do not break such data down. He said the WSO collected the figures first so that it could then take hard numbers to Statistics Canada and government.
Known for: leading the WSO as it produced a national dataset on the hate Sikhs report facing in Canada, and pressing governments to count it.
