Person
Satinder Singh Kohli
Chartered accountant and former SGPC internal auditor, arrested in January 2026 as an accused in the 328 missing saroops case. He has not been convicted; the claims against him are allegations.
Satinder Singh Kohli is a chartered accountant and former internal auditor of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). He is one of the people named in the First Information Report over the 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, and he was arrested in January 2026 by the Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT). He is an accused person. The sources we could open report no trial and no conviction, so everything below is what has been reported or alleged.
Key moments
- 2009 to 2020: News Arena reports that his firm, SS Kohli and Associates, was hired by the SGPC in 2009 for internal audit and computerisation of accounts, at Rs 3.5 lakh a month, and that in 2020 the SGPC ended the contract and passed a resolution to recover 75 per cent of the payments.
- 2020: News Arena reports that the Akal Takht's inquiry found his firm failed to prevent the misappropriation of the saroops.
- 7 December 2025: Amritsar Police register an FIR against 16 people over the missing saroops (The Tribune). ETV Bharat says those named include the SGPC's former chief secretary and its chartered accountant.
- Early January 2026: the SIT arrests him from a hotel in Chandigarh, the first arrest in the case. In an Amritsar court the police asked for 12 days of remand and the magistrate gave six (News Arena). The SIT said on 4 January that searches at 14 places had yielded phones, tablets, laptops and financial records, which would go for forensic analysis (The Tribune).
- 5 February 2026: taken on a production warrant and given two more days of police remand. The Tribune's report calls him Satinderpal Singh Kohli and does not set out what he is accused of.
- 18 April 2026: a magistrate gives default bail to a co-accused, Kanwaljit Singh, because the police had not filed a chargesheet after more than 100 days (The Tribune). That report does not mention Kohli, and we found no report of a bail ruling or a chargesheet for him.
Disputes: Baltej Pannu, a leader of the AAP, which governs Punjab, says Kohli is close to Sukhbir Singh Badal and audited the SGPC's accounts for years; News Arena presents that as his assertion. The SGPC contests the case. Its president, Harjinder Singh Dhami, has said the Akal Takht's report found misappropriation of money by some employees, not sacrilege (The Tribune).
Why he is in this record: He is named because the Akal Takht's report, as News Arena describes it, said the firm that audited the SGPC's accounts did not stop the loss of the saroops. That is an allegation that, as far as the sources we opened show, has not been tested in court.
