Sant Daya Singh
ਸੰਤ ਦਇਆ ਸਿੰਘ
Sixth head of the Damdami Taksal in the Taksal's own list, known as Dilbar, who gave daily katha at Sri Harmandir Sahib; the Taksal gives no dates for him.
Sant Daya Singh is the sixth head of the Damdami Taksal in the Taksal's own account of its leaders, which is the only source for his life found for this page. The Taksal's website lists him after Giani Sant Singh and before Sant Giani Bhagwan Singh and gives no date of birth, death or succession for him. He is not Bhai Daya Singh of the Panj Piare.
The website says he became head of the Damdami Taksal after Giani Sant Singh. It says he gave katha every day at Sri Harmandir Sahib and taught Gurbani to his students as he walked the parikrama, and that he trained many Gursikhs as kathakars and Gurbani readers. It describes him as strict about rehat, given to long meditation and a preacher of Gursikhi, and says the sangat called him Dilbar, the knower of hearts.
In the Taksal's account
- His best students included Giani Bhagwan Singh, who wrote steeks of Gurbani and was later given the seva of Jathedar of the Taksal.
- One of his sons was involved in a murder and sentenced to hang. When the sangat asked what could save him, the website says, Sant Daya Singh answered that what was to happen would happen, and the son was hanged.
- He then told his widowed daughter-in-law that she could return to worldly life or stay and serve in the langar of the sangat; the website says she chose to stay.
The Taksal remembers him as a teacher whose katha and way of life drew many to take Amrit. No independent source opened for this page places him in time, so no dates are given.
