ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ
Former Punjab finance minister and Akali leader who, with other rebels, apologised at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in July 2024 for the Akali governments' failures and was expelled from the SAD.
Parminder Singh Dhindsa is an Akali leader and a former Punjab finance minister, the son of the veteran Akali leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. In July 2024 he was among the senior Akalis who went to Sri Akal Takht Sahib to apologise for the failures of the Akali governments of 2007 to 2017, and he became a senior leader of the SAD Sudhar Lehar that challenged Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Key moments
- February 2020: the SAD expelled him and his father for alleged anti-party activities. In March 2024 Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa merged his own party, SAD (Sanyukt), back into the Badal-led SAD (The Tribune).
- April 2024: the SAD gave the Sangrur Lok Sabha ticket to Iqbal Singh Jhunda instead of Dhindsa, who had sought it. His supporters were unhappy, and Sukhbir Badal visited the family (The Tribune).
- 1 July 2024: Dhindsa was among the rebel Akalis who appeared before the Akal Takht Jathedar, apologised for mistakes made while their party was in power and submitted an apology letter. They planned to seek penance for themselves and for the party's leaders, especially Sukhbir Badal, citing the pardon of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief and the 2015 sacrilege incidents (The Tribune).
- July and August 2024: the SAD expelled the rebels, Dhindsa among them. The rebels formed the SAD Sudhar Lehar, with Gurpartap Singh Wadala as convener (The Tribune).
- 30 August 2024: the Akal Takht declared Sukhbir Badal tankhaiya and summoned the Sikh ministers of the 2007 to 2017 government (The Tribune).
- November 2024: at a press address in Sangrur he accused the SAD of pressing the Jathedar to shield Sukhbir Badal from a punishment not yet announced, and said the Akal Takht was fully capable of deciding independently (The Tribune).
- 9 December 2024: the rebels dissolved the Sudhar Lehar on the Akal Takht's direction, an announcement made by Wadala. Parminder Dhindsa and his father were named among the rebel leaders (The Tribune).
His accusations against the SAD leadership are his own, as reported by The Tribune.
What he is remembered for. So far, for the 2024 apology at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Sudhar Lehar. He and his father have now each been expelled from the SAD twice.
