Major General Jaswant Singh Bhullar

ਮੇਜਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੁੱਲਰ

Secretary-General of the secretariat set up by the World Sikh Convention, New York, 1984

Major-General named Secretary-General of the secretariat set up by the World Sikh Convention at Madison Square Garden, New York, in July 1984 after Operation Blue Star.

Major-General Jaswant Singh Bhullar was named Secretary-General of the secretariat that the World Sikh Convention set up at Madison Square Garden in New York in the weeks after Operation Blue Star. Gurmit Singh's History of Sikh Struggles dates the Convention to 29 July 1984. The Canadian Encyclopedia dates the creation of the World Sikh Organization in New York to 28 July 1984.

According to Gurmit Singh, the Convention condemned Operation Blue Star and said the Army action had "burnt the bridges" between Punjab and the rest of India. Those present committed themselves to work for an independent Sikh state, and the Convention decided to set up a secretariat for that purpose. It appointed Major-General Bhullar as Secretary-General and named a committee of 40 Sikhs from the United States, Canada, Europe and India. It also asked Sikhs to boycott General Dyal and General Brar, and not to travel by Air India.

The sources found say nothing more about his life, his Army service or what the secretariat did under him.
