Sardar Dhanna Singh Gulshan

ਸਰਦਾਰ ਧੰਨਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੁਲਸ਼ਨ

1910·Akali Dal Member of Parliament for Bathinda; Minister of State in the Janata Government of 1977

Akali Dal member of the Lok Sabha for Bathinda in 1962 to 1967 and 1977 to 1980, a member of the 1965-66 Punjabi Suba committee and a Minister of State in the 1977 Janata Government.

Dhanna Singh Gulshan was an Akali Dal politician from Bathinda who sat in the Lok Sabha twice and was a Minister of State at the Centre in the Janata Government of 1977.

Wikipedia lists him as a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal who represented Bathinda in the Lok Sabha from 1962 to 1967 and again from 1977 to 1980, and gives his birth year as 1910. We found no source for his death.

Key moments

  • 1962 to 1967: Member of Parliament for Bathinda (Wikipedia).
  • 1965 to 1966: the report of the Parliamentary Committee on the Demand for Punjabi Suba, which Hukam Singh chaired, lists Sardar Dhanna Singh Gulshan among its Lok Sabha members. The committee's report of 15 March 1966 recommended a Punjabi-speaking state; he did not add a note of his own.
  • 1977: Gurmit Singh writes that the Akali Dal's election manifesto pledged a re-appraisal of the Constitution, restoration of civil liberties and revocation of the Emergency, and that in the Lok Sabha election the Akalis won nine of Punjab's thirteen seats, Gulshan's among them. The Akalis joined the Janata coalition at the Centre with two ministerial berths: Surjit Singh Barnala became Agriculture Minister and Gulshan a Minister of State.
  • 1980: Wikipedia's list of members for Bathinda gives the seat to Hakam Singh of the Congress after Gulshan.

What he is remembered for. He is remembered as one of the nine Akali Members of Parliament returned in 1977 and as one of the two Akalis who joined the Union Government that year.
