Jathedar Chanan Singh Urara

Jathedar Chanan Singh Urara served as president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for eight months in 1950. The SGPC's own list of its presidents, published on its website, gives his term as 18 March 1950 to 26 November 1950 and prints his name, in Gurmukhi, as Jathedar Chanan Singh ji "Urara".

He came between the two terms of Jathedar Udham Singh Nagoke. The list shows Udham Singh Nagoke as president from 28 June 1948 to 18 March 1950. Chanan Singh Urara took over from Jathedar Udham Singh Nagoke on 18 March 1950, and Udham Singh Nagoke took the office back on 26 November 1950 and held it until 29 June 1952.

He is not the Sant Chanan Singh who led the SGPC from 1962 to 1972; the same list gives that term as 2 October 1962 to 30 November 1972, under a different name and title.

The list gives no more than his name, title and the dates of his term. The sources opened for this page do not say how he came to the office, what the SGPC did under him, or why his term ended, so none of that is stated here.
