SAF International is a Sikh charity based in Surrey, British Columbia. Its legal name in Canada is the Sikhi Awareness Foundation (charity number 82158 3176 RR0001), and it has offices in India and Australia. Its website says its mission is to bring “education, aid, and compassion to underprivileged communities across South Asia,” through an education fund, community development, Sikhi awareness, water aid, shelter and emergency response. The figures below are SAF’s own.

Work with Sikligar Sikhs

SAF works with Sikligar Sikh communities, which it describes as ignored and neglected by mainstream society.

  • Gujarat, from summer 2017: a development project with two small Sikligar communities in Vadodara, 30 families in all, with a Gurmat and tuition centre teaching Punjabi, Gujarati, kirtan and gatka.
  • Madhya Pradesh, from January 2018: a ten-year, $500,000 project at Pachori. It has provided water filters for a village of about 1,000 people, a sponsorship programme that began with 75 children, hostel places, and a full-time Gurmat Kendar teaching Punjabi, kirtan, tabla and gatka. SAF reports 67 children supported in 2024.
  • Housing, listed for 2022 to 2030: a first phase of 11 houses near Miryalguda, outside Hyderabad, co-funded by the Khalsa Credit Union of Surrey.
  • May 2020: during India’s lockdown it delivered over 12 tonnes of food to 256 families at eight locations.

Elsewhere

SAF runs Bibi Bhani Sewing Centers in north-east Punjab, expanded since 2024, and ran flood relief in Punjab in 2025. It also lists a $19,100 grant from the Khalsa Credit Union for Sikh families in Dasharathpur, Nepal.
