Navreet Singh, whom ThePrint names Navneet Singh, was a 27-year-old farmer from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. He died near ITO on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in Delhi on 26 January 2021, the day of the farmers' tractor rally during the Delhi morcha.

What the sources say about his death. ThePrint's timeline of the day puts the death of a protester at ITO at about 4 pm and records that Delhi Police said his tractor overturned. Police told ThePrint that he was over-speeding, hit a barricade and died when the tractor overturned. Some protesters said he was shot. Others said a tear gas shell hit his head, so that he lost his balance and struck the barricade. Al Jazeera reported on the day that the man had not yet been identified, that the cause of death was not clear and that farmers refused to hand his body to the police.

The post-mortem. Because protesters would not let police take the body, the post-mortem was done in his hometown in Uttar Pradesh by a panel of doctors and was videographed, ThePrint reported on 28 January 2021. A police source read the report to ThePrint: six injuries, a head injury above the left side of the skull, no bullet wound and no bullet on the X-ray, and a cause of death of shock and haemorrhage from head injuries sustained before death. Avinash Chandra, the Additional Director General of Police at Bareilly, said he was not shot. ThePrint's account of the report comes from that police source.

In the wider morcha. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha said it was not part of the violence of that day and blamed anti-social elements, and the unions called off their march to Parliament (ThePrint; Al Jazeera). Counts of the dead of the whole morcha differ by who counts. Wikipedia lists 248 confirmed deaths by 5 March 2021, over 537 by 10 July 2021 according to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, and around 750 by late 2021 according to the Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait.
