Nancy Grewal
ਨੈਨਸੀ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ
Punjabi-language influencer from Windsor, Ontario, who criticised the Khalistan movement; stabbed to death in LaSalle on 3 March 2026. Police call it intentional; no arrest was reported.
Nancy Grewal was a Punjabi-language social media influencer and personal support worker from Windsor, Ontario, who spoke out against the Khalistan movement and was killed on 3 March 2026, aged 45. According to Wikipedia she worked as a musician in India, moved to Canada in 2018 and posted mostly in Punjabi on YouTube, where she had thousands of followers. IANS, citing Khalsa Vox, reports that she criticised Khalistani figures including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and condemned the use of gurdwaras for separatist propaganda. The Indo-Canadian Voice, citing The Tribune, says she also drew attention for commentary on India-Canada diplomatic tensions. These were her views.
Key moments
- 8 November 2025: surveillance footage shows a man getting out of a van at her Windsor home, pouring liquid from a gas can on the front porch and lighting it (Global News). The OPP later released the footage and said the arson “may be connected” to the homicide investigation.
- 25 February 2026: in a CBC interview she spoke about what she called extremism within the Sikh separatist movement and said she had received 40 death threats (Wikipedia, citing CBC).
- 3 March 2026: at about 9:30 pm she was stabbed as she left a home on Todd Lane in LaSalle, Ontario, where she had been working. She died in hospital.
- 5 March 2026: LaSalle police chief Michael Pearce said investigators were “confident this was not a random act of violence” and that the death was being investigated as an intentional act against her. Police said the occupants of the Todd Lane home were not persons of interest. The OPP joined the investigation.
What is not known. Police have not given a motive and have declined to comment on online theories about her political views. The reports opened for this profile run to mid-March 2026; they say the suspect had not been identified and no arrest or charge had been announced. Global News notes that other Sikh leaders in Canada have received police warnings about threats to their lives, and that those warnings do not concern Grewal.
What she is remembered for. For her Punjabi-language criticism of the Khalistan movement, which she said had brought her threats, and for the unsolved killing that followed. Why she was killed has not been established, and nothing here should be read as naming a cause or a culprit.
